“At Sacred Heart, learning doesn’t stop when the school bell rings at the end of the day.” – Sally Sharp, Director of Student Life
A rich and varied extracurricular program provides children with opportunities to explore who they are as individuals, as well as in relation to the larger group. Teamwork, self-discovery and positive leadership are the linchpins of a program that encompasses athletics, academics, the arts, clubs and special interest activities.
Activities are offered at all grade levels. On any given day, nearly half our student body stays after school to participate in extracurricular programs. While some offerings change annually, all the activities listed below were offered during a single, recent academic year.
The Arts:
Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, Filmmaking, Liturgical Choir, Piano and Instrumental Music, Middle School Musical (right)
Clubs and Special Interest Activities:
Book Club, Brownies, Chess, Cooking, Homework Club, Math Club, Science Olympiad, Sewing, Taekwondo, Yoga
Leadership Opportunities: Editorial Board, Math Team, Quiz Bowl, Student Council, Tour Guides, Yearbook
Sacred Heart students are challenged to live values-centered lives that include genuine service to others. Our Community Service Program provides opportunities for students at all grade levels to contribute positively to the community.
By Middle School, students, faculty and parents are volunteering together at selected service sites near the school, including the Centro Romero After School Program, Inspiration Café, Uptown Head Start, United Methodist Home, White Crane Adult Day Care, and Misericordia Home. Students develop meaningful relationships with the people served by these agencies, as well as the professionals who have chosen to make service their life’s work. Teachers and parents provide thoughtful guidance as students reflect on their service experience.
