Parent Involvement:
Giving Life to the Schools

“Parents, faculty, and administration – we’re a team working together to make sure this school is the best it can be.  How could I choose not to be involved in such an extraordinary place?”
--Aric Cleland, parent

Parents play an important role in a Sacred Heart education.  After an orientation luncheon some years ago, a parent wrote a note of thanks acknowledging the fact that it wasn’t just her son who was entering Kindergarten.  She and her husband were going to Kindergarten, too. She was right.  Parents at Sacred Heart are actively involved in their children’s ongoing education and development.  They are also engaged in the Schools’ ongoing progress and development.  We think of parents as partners, and as partners they eagerly take hold of many opportunities to make a difference.

Volunteer Opportunities: Parent participation both in and outside of the classroom is welcomed and encouraged.

Primary School parents assist with weekly classroom activities such as literacy and math centers, art projects, and science experiments. Lower School parents chaperone field trips and organize holiday parties.  In Middle School, parents and teachers volunteer alongside students in on-going community service activities.

Outside the classroom, parents serve on advisory committees for the arts and athletics, as well as help supervise special school events like Field Day and International Night.  Parents serve on the Board of Trustees, as well as on every committee of the Board.

Parents of the Heart: Founded in 1929, our parent volunteer group builds community through organizing social activities, welcoming new parents and sponsoring several fund-raising events each year. Our major fund-raising event, L’Espirit de Sacre Couer, is an annual dinner/dance/auction. All Sacred Heart parents are members of Parents of the Heart and are encouraged to attend the organization’s monthly meetings.

Annual Fund: Tuition covers only a portion of the Schools' total expenses. The Annual Fund is the primary vehicle for closing the gap between tuition received and the actual cost of educating each student. Fund-raising is a shared responsibility, and one in which every family is expected to participate to the best of its ability. Recognizing that each family's finances are different, gifts of all sizes are welcomed and appreciated. Every contribution, regardless of size, supports our efforts to provide exceptional educational opportunities for our students.
