As part of our commitment to serving the needs of the whole child, we offer the Rainbows program, a peer support group that meets throughout the school year. Rainbows is designed for children in grades K-8 who live in single-parent families, live in blended families, whose families are going through the difficult transition of divorce, and those grieving the death of a parent or close family member. The Rainbows program is an internationally recognized organization that provides curriculum, training, and support for facilitators of these groups.
Students gather approximately once a week with peers for discussion and reflection. The facilitator encourages students to share their feelings in an atmosphere of trust and confidentiality. The curriculum focuses on skills of listening and expressing feelings as tools to sort out confusion, anger, and other emotions. The goal of Rainbows is to help children rebuild trust and gain the ability to share their feelings and begin the healing process. Currently, we have faculty and staff who are trained facilitators in this program.
