Children of the Heart

We Have Moved!
Children of the Heart has moved to our new home in Sacred Heart Schools.
You will find us on Rosemont Avenue, at the corner of Sheridan Road.
We will be located on the 6th floor, and we have an elevator.

HISTORY
• Established September 2000
• A non-denominational program developed and launched by Sacred Heart Schools on Sheridan Road to provide diverse families in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood with access to early childhood education and parental development programs

PROGRAM
• Free, bilingual workshops in areas of early education, pediatric health, and effective parenting
• Shared time for mothers and their children from birth to three years to interact in supervised creative activities such as arts and crafts, music, and movement

GOALS
• Empowerment of women—many of whom face such challenges as early motherhood, limited English proficiency, and recovery from domestic abuse or instability – as individuals, mothers, and active members of the Edgewater community
• Reinforcement of parents' essential role as the first and primary teacher of children

DEMOGRAPHICS
• Annually, 90 families, 100 children from birth to age 3 residing in the Edgewater community
• Fall 2004 program: 51% Latina, 11% Asian/East Indian, 14% Caucasian, 13% Eastern European, 11% African American
