The restoration of the 6200 House, now named the Driehaus Center, has begun with the expected date of completion the Fall of 2008. The plans include exterior masonry repair, restoration of original woodwork, mosaic tiles and windows and modernization of the plumbing, electrical, restrooms and kitchen.
The restored Driehaus Center will be the new home of the Admissions, Advancement and Director’s offices. The freed-up offices from the main building will be used for much-needed space for the students.
The 100-year old mansion has been part of Sacred Heart since 1959 when it became Hardey Preparatory. To honor Hardey Preparatory, the living room will be named Hardey Hall and will feature memorabilia from throughout the School’s history. The Hall will be available for social gatherings, meetings and other community events.
Richard Driehaus, preservationist, parent and friend of the schools contributed $1 million matching grant. Sacred Heart is raising the addition $2 million to complete the project. Questions regarding the project or to contribute to the effort, may be directed to kathy.fivelson@shschicago.org.
