The opening of the Schools' new academic wing in February 2004 included the move of the library/media center from the original Chapel site in the 6250 Building. Sacred Heart Schools' Chapel now has been restored as a sacred space. The design of the Chapel is in its nascent form. Former library chairs are currently being used for mass. The first phase of renovations, which include replacing the flooring and lighting and updating the painting of the space, will begin in early Summer 2005.
Phases Two and Three focus on the acquisition of furniture, artwork and stained glass, respectively.
The Chapel's current needs include the acquisition of:
Pews and chairs
Ambo (lecturn)
Piano
Music stands and storage
Altar
Reconciliation Room
Sacristy
Candle stands
Stained Glass windows
Icons
Paintings of Mater, Mother Hardey, St. Madeleine Sophie
Shrines
Generous gifts to the Chapel have already underwritten the purchase of the tabernacle, crucifix, hymnals, vessels, presider's chair, cantor stand, ambry, and baptismal fountain.
The Chapel will be used for First Communion and Confirmation preparation, celebration of reconciliation, prayer services, masses for smaller class or school division groups, May Crownings, World Day of Prayer and other ecumenical celebrations.
