Cultivating our students' desire and ability to learn is dependent upon having talented and engaged educators. Competition for outstanding teachers and staff is fierce. We seek to recruit new teachers of diverse experiences and backgrounds and to retain the finest teachers in our community. To achieve our goal, we must ensure that we offer a competitive salary and benefits package and provide enriching professional development opportunities.
Our goals are to:
Build a faculty compensation fund that allows us to match the Midwest regional average of independent school teachers' salaries
Expand our professional development funds so that all teachers will have access to professional development opportunities that are culturally, intellectually and personally enriching.
We want all teachers to have opportunities to study, learn, and expand their horizons by attending conferences and enrolling in workshops and seminars. Jenny Doherty, Middle School Art Teacher, used state professional development funds to enroll in a week-long summer seminar to study the mysteries of Chartres Cathedral. This year several teachers will use the same funding source to attend the International Boys' School Coalition Conference. The Sarah Kirwan Blazek Fund is a model of the kind of endowed fund the school would like to replicate. Wenche Haverkamp, Middle School Language Arts Teacher, received funding from the Blazek Fund to return to the town in Norway where she was born. According to Wenche, “the trip helped me to remember how my immigrant students feel about their visits "home" and how important it is to feel connected to the place where we were born .”
