Commitment to Diversity
History of Commitment to Diversity
Sacred Heart Schools is a member of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools, which has 22 schools in the United States and more than 150 schools in 30 countries worldwide. Our commitment to diversity, inclusion and multiculturalism is at the very root of the philosophy of our foundress, St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, and is a core value embodied within the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools. 200 years of educational experience grounded in a fundamental belief in the dignity of every human person continues to teach us that diversity enriches our community, strengthens our programs and enhances each student’s total development: spiritual, intellectual, emotional and physical.
Guided by the Goals and Criteria, a Sacred Heart education promotes and inspires our community to develop a deep understanding of and respect for all cultures, perspectives, religions and life experiences. We strive to educate students as global citizens and encourage them to think critically and explore problems from a variety of perspectives so that they may become leaders in an ever more interdependent and complex world. We are devoted to fostering a caring and respectful community that empowers both individuals and groups to discover and celebrate their identity. Rooted in our history and inspired by our mission, Sacred Heart Schools seeks to be a model of inclusion, empathy and respect and to equip through education all members of our community with tools to recognize and value the distinctive perspectives, experiences and skills of others. Sacred Heart Schools will continue to strive to be not only a diverse and inclusive community but also one that seeks to embrace, celebrate and value all who pass through our doors.
