“The Schools’ constant attention to improving the facilities only enhances the fine education that Sacred Heart provides for the children.” - Janet Lougee, parent of alumni
Sacred Heart Schools' campus is located on Sheridan Road, overlooking Lake Michigan in the Edgewater/Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago. Five distinct buildings, totaling nearly 145,000 square feet of instructional, meeting and office space, comprise the two-plus acre campus.
Sheridan South, a four-story classroom addition completed in the spring of 2004, totaling 33,000 square feet of air-conditioned space, connects the historic 1928 Main Building (Sheridan North) with the Campbell Gymnasium. In addition to 12 classrooms, a rooftop playground, a library and two computer labs, the wing also includes two new middle school science labs and a flexible multipurpose room in the building.
Through the generosity of the Driehaus Foundation, renovation was completed in the spring of 2010 on the historic Conway House, located at the south end of our campus. The Driehaus Center at the Conway House hosts the Schools' Institutional Advancement Department, including offices of Admissions, Communications, Development and Parent and Alumni Relations. It also serves as an event space.
Library: All Sacred Heart students regularly use our extensive library, which contains more than 14,000 volumes.
Computer Lab: There are 48 interactive projector/whiteboards in every core classroom. There is one mobile interactive whiteboard for use anywhere on campus. The school has nine iPad carts; 180 iPads dedicated to student use. We have 10 wireless laptop carts (1 Google Chromebook cart), totaling 176 laptops. Our computer lab is for grades 1-5. It has 20 networked stations. The school is completely wireless with 10Mbps access to the Internet with a T1 as a backup. Each (K-8) classroom has a minimum of two to nine laptops for student use. Every computer has access to the school network and the Internet.
Campbell Gymnasium: The double-court gymnasium encompasses 23,000 square feet and has locker room facilities for boys and girls. The gym has new lighting and sound systems (for performances and productions), thicker acoustically-sound ceiling panels, an 8,000 sq. ft. floor (estimated to last 50-80 years), and retractable basketball backboards (for a full basketball court).
Three Outdoor Playgrounds: All students have daily recess on one of our three enclosed playgrounds, totaling 17,000-square-feet.
Art Facilities: Sacred Heart has two music labs, three art studios with a shared kiln facility and a fully equipped stage for plays and concerts.
Lunchroom: The renovated cafeteria has flexible seating for 240.
Chapel: The renovation of the Schools' original chapel was completed in the fall of 2008. This spiritual space provides a quiet place for meditation, prayer and liturgies.
Lower School Science Lab: The open resource center offers easy access to scientific supplies, cabinets, table and sink areas, a laptop cart and an interactive Promethean Board.
