What is Enrichment?
Enrichment provides a variety of resources for teachers, students and families in order to best meet the needs of high achieving students in the SHS community.

This could include, but is not limited to the following:

  • Helping to modify curriculum in order to differentiate
  • Developing centers to accompany themes of study
  • Providing higher-level thinking games/activities
  • Teaching students games that enhance critical thinking and creative thinking
  • Creating quick mind benders for morning challenge work or time fillers
  • Pretesting students and developing ‘instead of’ activities for those who have already mastered curricular materials/skills
  • Providing information about gifted education
  • Finding resources on a particular topic of study

Meeting the Needs of High-Ability Readers
Many of you have mentioned that you have high readers and that you sometimes struggle to find books for these children. One of the greatest obstacles can be finding books that provide a challenge yet contain age-appropriate content. The only way to know for sure is to preview the book. The next best strategy is to make friends with your local or school librarian and/or your local book seller. These people live to read and usually can make sound recommendations for appropriate books.
