International Night

One School, Many Nations United

Our 5th Annual International Night, held on November 19, 2009, was a tremendous success. More than 700 people joined in the fun in the gym, transformed for the evening into a festive community square that celebrated the wonderful tastes, sounds and sights of the many cultures that make up our Sacred Heart community. This year, we had a dazzling array of food lovingly prepared by our participating families, and a Parade of Nations featuring SHS children and their families in authentic dress and music from around the world. Our festivities included the 5th grade dance, passport stamping, mask making, origami, and films from the ‘Best of the Fest’ of the Chicago Children’s Film Festival.

Thank you to Mary Burke-Peterson, Paz Salas, Christy Crandall, the maintenance crew, and all who volunteered  from the faculty and staff to help make International Night 2009 such a wonderful success. As the evening grew this year, Tim Mikolay, Sheryl Henderson, Jennifer Swillinger, and Cheri Dahlen provided new fun and educational activities for the students—a special thank you to them as well. 

Co-chairs for the event this year were Jimmy Bennett and Louis Fernandez who provided leadership and coordination. They did an outstanding job! We are grateful for the many hours donated by our staff and parent volunteers for the planning and coordination of this event as well as set-up and clean up on the day event itself. It is a labor of love and one of those uniquely wonderful events when we celebrate who we are as Sacred Heart, both as individuals and a community. 

This is a very special place!
