Sacred Heart has two book clubs in our After School program:
One is the Caldecott Book Club for Kindergarten and 1st grade. Arlene Carlucci reads the kids Caldecott award-winning picture books. They have short discussions on the art work and thematic elements of the book, and a craft and snack that have relevance to the book complete the meeting. Pictured above, the children read My Friend Rabbit and snacked on carrots.

The second book club is for grades 2-4. Most kids have "graduated" from the Caldecott Book Club and are eager to move to bigger and more challenging books. In this session, the kids take the six weeks to read the 511 page book The Invention of Hugo Cabret. The kids will discuss its themes of Paris, automation, magic, clocks, and will end with watching the movie HUGO, where they will compare and contrast the book to the film.
