Music Lessons

Voice lessons, Music Instrument Lessons, (guitar and piano), Choir, Band, and Glee Club are offered after school.

Band (Grades 4-8)

The Sacred Heart Band returns for its third year led by Mr. Tim Mikolay, Primary School Music Teacher.

Students New to Band:  We invite students new to band to join. There is an instrument fitting session offered to each interested child in mid-September and lessons start in late September/early October. There are weekly group lessons by section one morning before school (7:40-8:20 am), periodic ensemble rehearsals are held on Friday mornings with returning band members and a spring performance. Instruments include brass, wind and percussion.

If you have interest in joining the band in the fall, contact Dr. Sally Sharp, Head of Student Life.

Returning Band Members:  Starting in mid-September, the ensemble rehearses weekly on Friday mornings from 7:30 – 8:15 am.  Performances are scheduled throughout the year.

Please email Dr. Sharp to confirm your interest in returning to band this fall. 

Choir (Grades 3-8)

All students in grades 3-8  are invited to participate in the Sacred Heart Liturgical Choir. Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays in the chapel, starting in late-September, immediately after school until 4:30 pm.

Ms. Becker leads the choir during school liturgies. If you would like to join the choir or return for another great year, register via Ultra Camp website, starting early August .

Glee Club (Grades 6-8)

Sacred Heart Glee Club, under the direction of Justin Nixon, Middle School Music Teacher, is open to new and returning students in grades 6-8.  Practice is held on Wednesday mornings, starting early September from 7:20-8:15 am in the chapel.

The Glee Club performs at various on and off-campus gatherings throughout the year.

Guitar (Beginner & Intermediate)

Beginner's Guitar

Private acoustic guitar lessons are offered to students grades 1-6, which are taught by Ms. Jennifer Swillinger, Librarian and Science Lab Assistant.

Students will be introduced to Chords A, E, D, C, G, F, Am and Em as well as several versatile and basic strums. Students are required to bring their own guitar (nylon strings are recommended).   Lessons are held weekly for 45 minutes between 4-5:45 pm.

Intermediate Guitar

Intermediate Guitar is for students who have completed Beginners Guitar or have previous experience with open chords and basic strumming patterns.

Students will learn barre chords, basic lead guitar techniques, note-reading, tablature, fingerstyle guitar, as well as creative songwriting. The focus will be rock/pop/folk songs. Students are required to bring their own guitar. Lessons are held weekly for 45 minutes between 3:30-5:45 pm.

Registration starts early August via the UltraCamp website.

Piano

Private Piano Lessons (Suzuki Method) are offered weekly to students in grades K-8 from 3:30-5:45 pm. Lessons are taught by Mrs. Witos, a faculty member of the Music Institute of Chicago.  

Registration starts early August via the Ultra Camp website.

**You will need to arrange for a timeslot  before  registering for class by contacting Mrs. Witos.**

Note: The Suzuki Method of teaching requires a parent to be present at the child's lessons and receive training as a practice partner to the child.

Voice

Private Voice Lessons, taught by Mr. Justin Nixon, Mddle School Music Teacher,  are offered weekly to students grades K-5. Students meet for 30 minutes between 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Registration starts early August, via Ultra Camp website
