Financial Aid
The financial aid program, administered through the office of the Director of Schools, helps make Sacred Heart education accessible to students from all backgrounds, regardless of their financial means. Approximately 20% of the student body receives tuition assistance in any given year.
To receive an application for financial aid, check the appropriate box on the application for admission. Financial aid materials will be forwarded to interested families in November and December 2007. Financial aid applications for the 2008-09 academic year should be submitted by March 1, 2008. Late applications will be accepted as long as funds remain available; however, applicants should be aware that requests for assistance always exceed funds. For new families, the Schools strive to provide financial aid decisions concurrently with admissions decisions, although it is important to note that a request for financial aid has no bearing on the admissions process.
Assistance is administered in the form of outright grants; no repayment is necessary. Financial aid is awarded at all grade levels and is strictly need-based, although every family is expected to pay something toward their child’s tuition. Awards are made for one year, and recipients must re-apply each year, although it is the Schools’ intention to fund students for as long as they are enrolled at Sacred Heart, assuming their financial need remains the same.
Those who receive financial aid awards also are eligible for additional financial assistance for certain school expenses over and above tuition, including after school care, class trips and summer camp. This additional assistance does not cover the cost of transportation, uniforms, supplies, or school lunch.
Confidentiality is maintained in the evaluation of financial aid materials and in the awarding of grants. The Schools adhere to the Standards of Good Practice outlined by the National Association of Independent Schools, found on their website.
Families wishing to apply for financial aid will be asked to submit the following:
Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS)
This form is submitted directly to the School and Student Service for Financial Aid sponsored by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). The PFS is available in hardcopy from the Admissions Office or can be submitted on-line at https://sss.ets.org/
Families will have difficulty completing the PFS before completing their 2007 Federal Tax Returns. The PFS therefore is typically submitted after January 1, but before February 15.
Sacred Heart Schools Confidential Application for Financial Aid
While the PFS allows for a standardized evaluation of each family’s financial need, the SHS Confidential Application allows parents to outline any special circumstances impacting their individual family finances. Confidential Application
Copies of 2007 Federal Income Tax Return with applicable schedules and 2007 W-2 forms
These should be submitted to Sacred Heart along with the Confidential Application for Aid.
If you have additional questions, please contact the Admissions Office.
