Transfers (Grades 1-7)

The number of openings we have for 1st-7th grade varies from year to year. We usually have specific information to share with prospective families in February, after reenrollment is completed for current students. We encourage interested families to begin the application process as soon as possible to ensure the Admissions Office can respond promptly as openings occur.

If you did not submit your child’s most recent report card with your application, please forward it to the Admissions Office as soon as possible. The process cannot move forward until your child’s report card has been received.

STEP ONE: APPLY

There is no official deadline for applying to 1st-7th grade, but we encourage applications by December to be considered for entry the following school year.

You can apply online beginning August 15, 2016. Paper applications forms are also available through the Admissions Office.

STEP TWO: TOUR THE SCHOOL

If you have not yet toured Sacred Heart, please schedule a visit online or contact the Admissions Office at (773) 681-8418. If possible, your tour should take place prior to your parent interview. Admissions Coffees are scheduled on selected mornings October – May. Quick Tours are offered on selected mornings, October – February. Both Admissions Coffees and Quick Tours require reservations.

STEP THREE: SCHEDULE YOUR PARENT INTERVIEW

Weekday mornings, October through May

During this meeting, you will be able to ask questions and share information about your family. Both parents should attend. Your child should not accompany you unless their assessment is scheduled for the same time. Meetings are about an hour. Contact the Admissions Office at (773) 681-8418 to schedule your interview.

STEP FOUR: SCHEDULE YOUR CHILD'S ASSESSMENT

Weekday mornings, October through May
Your child will meet individually with a member of our Admissions staff.

First Grade
Assessments are developmentally focused and center on activities appropriate for a child entering 1st grade such as patterning, sorting, early number concepts, fine motor skills, and letter/word recognition. Assessments last about 45 minutes.

Second through Seventh Grade
Assessments focus on appropriate grade level skills and last about 45-90 minutes. An assessment must be completed before a shadow day can be scheduled.

Contact the Admissions Office at (773) 681-8494 to schedule your child's assessment.

STEP FIVE: class visit/shadow day (second through 7th grade only)

January through May

Selected transfer applicants will be invited to visit the school for a day. With the help of student hosts, these applicants have the opportunity to meet other students, participate in classroom activities, and become acquainted with a typical school day at Sacred Heart. The Admissions Office will contact you to schedule a convenient time.

STEP SIX: SUBMIT A TEACHER RECOMMENDATION

January through May

Please ask your child's teacher to complete a teacher recommendation for your child. Sacred Heart uses the Lake Michigan Association of Independent Schools (LMAIS) Recommendation form used by many independent schools in the area. Teachers should complete the form, maintain the original for their records and send a copy to the Admissions Office. A recommendation form will be included in your application acknowledgement packet and can also be downloaded on this page.

STEP seven: MEET WITH DIVISION HEAD

When the applicant file is complete, the Admissions Office will contact you to schedule this final step in the application process.
