Alumnus Living His Musical Theater Dream

Michael Waller H'09 caught the theater bug as a 2nd grade Hardey Prep student, thanks to the Sacred Heart Schools talent show. "My friends and I wrote a poem for the talent show and it was so much fun to perform," Michael shared. In later years, he said, "My close friends and I would pick out a song for the talent show, choreograph our act and practice for months." His first musical performance was in a Victory Gardens Theater production of "Hello Dolly" when he was in 5th grade. Sacred Heart Schools faculty member Jill Renn played Minnie Fay in the show and Michael and his younger brothers Brandon H'11 and Ian H'12 sang and danced in the ensemble. "I was hooked on musical theater after that experience," Michael said. While in Middle School, he was an ensemble member in "Guys and Dolls," Billy Crocker in "Anything Goes," and Benjamin Franklin in "1776."

Share Your Heart during Share the Heart Month

February is Share the Heart Month at Sacred Heart Schools! The entire Sheridan Road community will participate in special activities to share the good news about Sacred Heart Schools. In keeping with this year's emphasis on Goal III of the Goals and Criteria for Sacred Heart Schools in the United States, alumni of Sheridan Road and all other Sacred Heart Network Schools living in the Chicago area are invited to participate in special service projects during Share the Heart Month.

Volunteer with your fellow alumni and Sheridan Road Alumni Association Board members at Edgewater Kids United (EKU) on Friday night February 23 from 5:30-7 pm in the Sacred Heart gymnasium and cafeteria. This community outreach initiative is a program based on building relationships between adults and youth in the Edgewater community, Sacred Heart Schools' home. Middle School boys and girls from Edgewater gather at Sacred Heart Schools each Friday night for dinner, discussion and games. Assistance is needed to serve dinner and clean up. EKU recently lost the services of 10 college work-study students, so help is desperately needed.

Alumni are also invited to serve dinner to the homeless at Catholic Charities on Tuesday, February 6 from 4-6 pm at Catholic Charities headquarters, 721 N. LaSalle, Chicago. If you are not available on February 6 but would still like to assist Catholic Charities, you may sign up to help on Tuesday, March 20 from 4-6 pm.

Please share your time and your heart during Share the Heart Month. Click here for more information and volunteer sign up. Click here for special Share the Heart Month digital wallpaper downloads and other digital items to help you share the heart this February!

Share the Heart by Supporting Class Trips

The SRAA Board would like to share the heart by raising funds for upcoming class trips to Space Camp and Washington, D.C. for students and families for which the cost is prohibitive. Our goal by February 28 is to raise $7,500 to send three students to Space Camp and three students to Washington, D.C. Will you join is in this effort by making a contribution to the Annual Fund in support of class trips? In order to maintain the traditions of these Sacred Heart experiences, donations will be accepted through February 28. Alumni support is vital to ensure that all children of the Sacred Heart can participate.
