"Wherever you go, whatever road you may travel, Alumni Profiles: Dr. James Hendele H'98 The Sheridan Road Alumni Association was lucky enough to have Dr. James Hendele H'98 as the keynote speaker for this year's Angel Brunch. Dr. Hendele has just completed his residency in general surgery at the University of Illinois – Chicago and will begin a fellowship in transplantation surgery at the University of Washington.
When Dr. James Hendele looks back upon his time at Sacred Heart, he remembers a "safe and comfortable place to grow up and learn life's lessons." He warmly remembers feeling as if he had family time for seven hours a day with instructors he found to be he grew to want to emulate those faculty and staff whom he felt saw him as a whole person.
Thus far in his life, Dr. Hendele has more than lived up to those people and qualities he found so inspiring.
Much like the alums before and after him, Dr. Hendele remembers more acutely the things he learned about himself at Sacred Heart, as opposed to concrete facts and figures. The lessons that he took away from Sacred Heart—how to live as a good person, to find meaning in service and selflessness, and to be self aware—are integral parts of who he is today. He has chosen to take more difficult paths in his life to better himself, and has chosen a profession that is both challenging and impactful. Like the Sacred Heart faculty and staff that he so admired, Dr. Hendele has chosen to lead by example, to "strive for equity and equality in the patients that I care for and the people that I meet."

Class Trip Fund Each year, the Sheridan Road Alumni Association reaches out to the many Sheridan Road alums in support of the Class Trip Fund. These generous gifts help support Middle School field trips to Ropes Course, Space camp, and Washington D.C.
This year, one of our Board members had a chance to chat with the parent of a 7th grader who attended Space Camp. When she told him that the SRAA Board works to raise funds for the trips, he exclaimed, "Awesome! My son is having the time of his life. Thank you!"
A HUGE thank you to all alums who support the Class Trip Fund - your generosity and engagement makes it possible for all students to make the most of their Sacred Heart education.

While Tivas is excited to start his new adventure in Boston, he cherishes the tight-knit community at Sacred Heart, he feels that the connections that he made here, which carried through high school, will stay with him during college. Many of his best friends now are his Sacred Heart classmates. During his time at Sacred Heart, Tivas kept busy playing every sport he could, as well as participating in the Middle School musical, Science Olympiad, yearbook, and debate. Tivas went onto Saint Ignatius where he participated and excelled in debate, Model United Nations, the SPIRIT newspaper, and even had time to co-found the Saint Ignatius Ethics Bowl Team in his junior year.
We wish Tivas all the best in the future. To read the more about Tivas, visit our website here.
