"Wherever you go, whatever road you may travel, "Valentine" Book Discussion with Author Elizabeth Wetmore January 28, 2021 at 7 pm CST Please join us on January 28, 2021, at 7 pm CST, for a virtual book discussion with Sacred Heart alumni parent Elizabeth Wetmore, author of the best-selling novel, "Valentine." We are thrilled to host a book discussion for Ms. Wetmore's debut novel, a New York Times bestseller and a Today Show Book Club pick.
In the early morning hours after Valentine's Day, a teenage girl is viciously attacked in an oil field in Odessa, Texas. "Valentine" is a haunting exploration of the intersections of violence and race, class and region in a story that plumbs the depths of darkness and fear, yet offers a window into beauty and hope. Told through the alternating points of view of indelible characters who burrow deep in the reader's heart, this fierce, unflinching, and surprisingly tender novel illuminates women's strength and vulnerability, and reminds us that it is the stories we tell ourselves that keep us alive. Registration is a $15 donation. As a thank you, the first 20 registrants will receive an autographed copy of the book, generously donated by Ms. Wetmore. Proceeds will go to the Annual Fund in support of Tuition Assistance.
Elizabeth Wetmore is a graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop and is the recipient of a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and two fellowships from the Illinois Arts Council as well as a grant from the Barbara Deming Foundation. In addition, she was a Rona Jaffe Scholar in Fiction at Bread Loaf and a Fellow at the MacDowell Colony. In the spring of 2015, she was one of six Writers in Residence at Hedgebrook. Her son Hank Sànchez graduated from Hardey Prep in 2019. Annual Fund Sacred Heart Schools is blessed with a committed faculty and staff working hard to educate students both in person and remotely. In these uncertain times, there is an even greater need to provide the gift of a Sacred Heart education. As our world changes, Sacred Heart continues to be committed to providing a rigorous values-based curriculum for each and every student. A gift of any amount will help ensure that Sacred Heart students will have the technology, supplies, and support they need to learn; the world is a better place when a child receives a Sacred Heart education.
