Why Sacred Heart?

We nurture the whole child, mind and heart.

As a Sacred Heart school, the Goals and Criteria - where we educate our students to faith, learning, service, community, and growth - are the backbone of who we are. We truly educate the whole child - their minds and hearts.

Sacred Heart is both an independent and Catholic elementary school. We benefit from our relationships with the Archdiocese of Chicago and with the Network of Sacred Heart schools; and we are self-governing and free to pursue our own vision and standard of excellence. As a Catholic school for children of all faiths, we welcome and celebrate our religious diversity.

We prepare students for the future, nurturing the whole child in the context of the whole world. Our curriculum is not only exceptional academically, but also responds to what our society needs now more than ever - respect, compassion, generosity, grace, justice, and hope. As a result, our students enjoy their experiences, are confident and competent, and recognize a world beyond their own needs.

We are uniquely positioned to offer the best that single-gender and co-ed environments provide. Our single-gender classrooms allow each student to feel empowered to express themselves, explore their identity, strive, grow, fail and learn in a safe atmosphere that fosters confidence. Many co-educational opportunities help students continue to grow in building relationships, collaboration, and skills to help them thrive in the world.

We have four children. Each of them are entirely different in their personalities, skills, likes and dislikes yet, incredibly, Sacred Heart was perfect for each of them. The school knew how to support each of them academically, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
 Helena Gabriel-Collins, SHS parent

Our education is not meant to turn the children out small and finished, but seriously begun on a wide-basis. Therefore they must leave us with some self-knowledge, some energy, some purpose...If they leave us without these three things they drift with the stream of life.
Janet Erskine Stuart

Goals and Criteria

The essence of this educational vision and tradition is articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools in the United States and Canada. This year, Sacred Heart Schools is focused on Goal IIV: Schools of the Sacred Heart commit themselves to educate to the building of community as a Christian value.
