Junior Kindergarten 2020-21

Children applying now for junior kindergarten 2020-21 should be 4-years old by September 1, 2020, born September 1, 2015 through August 31, 2016.

Sacred Heart’s junior kindergarten program is located on our Preschool Campus at 5649 N. Sheridan Road on the grounds of Saint Andrew Greek Orthodox Church. The program is five days per week. Families may choose between a morning and full-day program. Extended day and summer options are also available.

Enrolling in Sacred Heart’s junior kindergarten is the first step in a seamless Sacred Heart educational experience that takes children through 8th grade. Enrollment in our preschool guarantees your child's space in our senior kindergarten. No further admissions process will be required.

Admissions appointments can be scheduled through Ravenna, by calling the Admissions Office at 773.681.8494, or by emailing admissions@shschicago.org.

STEP ONE:  APPLY

Submit your application by December 9, 2019 via Ravenna-hub.com. Create an account and search for Sacred Heart Schools in the School Directory. There is a $75 fee for new families. Qualifying families can obtain a fee waiver by calling the Admissions Office.  Preschool applicants will be asked to choose a half- or full-day schedule when they apply.  Following enrollment, preschools families will be able to register for our optional extended day and summer programs.

STEP TWO:  Attend an admissions coffee

Selected mornings, October through February, on our SK-8 campus

Sacred Heart prioritizes families committed to Sacred Heart education through 8th grade; therefore, all parents are asked to learn about our SK - 8th grade program.  Visits can take place before or after applying. Tours of our Preschool Campus are also available. Schedule a visit online or contact the Admissions Office at 773.681.8418. If possible, your tour should take place prior to your parent interview. Admissions Coffees, Quick Tours and Preschool Tours require reservations.

STEP THREE:  SCHEDULE YOUR PARENT INTERVIEW

Weekday mornings, October through February, on our SK-8 campus

Parents meet with a member of our Admissions Team to share information about their family, discuss the admissions process and ask additional questions about Sacred Heart.  Both parents should attend. Your child should not accompany you. Interviews are about an hour.

STEP FOUR:  SCHEDULE YOUR CHILD'S DEVELOPMENTAL ASSESSMENT

Weekday mornings, October through February, on our SK-8 campus

Your child will meet individually with a member of our Admissions staff for a 20 – 30 minute assessment. Assessments are age-appropriate and developmentally-focused, centering on activities such as puzzles, blocks, drawing and word and number games.

STEP FIVE:  OBSERVATION OR SACRED HEART PLAY PARTY

January and February

Preschool observations allow us to become better acquainted with children in an environment where they feel comfortable and know the classroom routine. Visiting arrangements will be made directly with the school, but you will be informed regarding the date. If your child is not enrolled in a preschool or if an observation cannot be scheduled, you will be asked to bring your child to a play party at Sacred Heart on Monday, February 10, 2020 at either 9 am or 10:30 am.  We do not schedule observations at public or parish schools.

STEP SIX:  SUBMIT A TEACHER RECOMMENDATION

By January 1, 2020

Please delegate the Lake Michigan Association of Independent Schools (LMAIS) recommendation form to your child’s current preschool teacher electronically through Ravenna or download a paper copy from our website.  If your child is not enrolled in a preschool, another care-giver or instructor familiar with your child may complete the recommendation form.

ADMISSIONS NOTIFICATIONS AND Enrollment agreements

Families who have completed the application process by February 12, 2020 will receive admissions decisions on March 6, 2020.  Enrollment agreements are due March 16, 2020. Any spaces remaining after March 16 will be filled on a rolling basis.
