From Nat Wilburn
Head of Schools
On behalf of the faculty and staff of Sacred Heart, let me welcome our new and returning students to school! Academic year 2018-19 promises to be both exciting and fulfilling. The new playground equipment, basketball courts and four squares were met with delight by students and are already being put to good use! Faculty and staff are grateful for new office space and student furniture. Thank you again to the Masterpiece Campaign donors who supported our academic and tuition assistance programs, and who made our campus improvements possible.
This year, we are focusing on Goal IV: The building of community as a Christian value. I look forward to exploring how we can expand and deepen the bonds that we share—with each other, within the Edgewater neighborhood and with God. Sacred Heart is known throughout Chicago for the quality of our community life. As St. Madeleine Sophie dreamed, there is no mistaking the Heart of Christ found here at Sacred Heart. It is evidenced by a vibrant love that encourages us to live with purpose, learn with enthusiasm and serve with trust in a bright future.
We have so many things to look forward to this year, including our ISACS accreditation visit at the end of October and our preparations for the new preschool, opening Fall 2019. We will continue to focus on our Initiative for Excellence in Teaching and Learning with further exploration of differentiation and more personalized learning. I hope you will approach this year with a mindset that embraces growth and celebrates all we have become in our 142-year history in Chicago: a caring, diverse, open and joyful learning community!
